Quick Answers

Small Claims Court

?Are you the Small Claims Court?

No. ClaimPrep Ontario is a private, independent document preparation service with no connection to the court or the Ministry of the Attorney General. We can’t see your court file or tell you your court date — but we can make sure what you file is complete, organized and in the right form.

$What is the Small Claims Court limit in Ontario?

Up to $50,000, not including interest and costs, for claims started on or after October 1, 2025. Larger claims belong in the Superior Court of Justice.

!How long do I have to file a Defence?

Generally 20 days after you are served with the Plaintiff’s Claim. If that time has passed, you may be noted in default — call us right away, and confirm your own deadline with the court.

?How much does it cost?

Every job is quoted at a fixed fee after we see your documents. The review and quote are free, and there is no retainer or hourly billing. Once you accept the quote, you pay by Interac e-Transfer or by card through a secure Square invoice.

?How fast can you turn it around?

Tell us your deadline when you call and we’ll tell you straight whether we can meet it. Most claims and defences are prepared within a few business days of receiving your documents.

?Do you serve or file for me?

You serve and file, and the filing stays your responsibility. We prepare everything so it is ready to go, and we can help with the Affidavit of Service and Ontario’s online filing service.

?Can I appeal a Small Claims decision?

Appeals from final Small Claims Court orders go to the Divisional Court, above a minimum amount. See our Divisional Court page for how appeals work and what we prepare.

The best way to use our service: send us your materials and instructions and tell us what you need. We prepare the documents from your materials and instructions — the court’s form, the particulars of your claim, exhibits, indexing and bookmarking — and hand them back filing-ready for your approval. If you don’t have a lawyer, the Law Society Referral Service offers a free consultation of up to 30 minutes — lsrs.lso.ca · 1-855-947-5255 (416-947-5255 in the GTA).
All quotes are in Canadian dollars and subject to HST. Court filing fees are not included. ClaimPrep Ontario is an independent document preparation service — we are not the court and are not affiliated with the Ontario courts or the Ministry of the Attorney General. We are not a law firm, and our team does not include lawyers or paralegals — we do not give legal advice, prepare pleadings, or represent you in any proceeding. You remain responsible for the legal content and substance of your documents, and for the filing. For legal advice, consult a licensed lawyer or paralegal.
